Assisted training is a new policy instrument – made available for a limited period – designed to help
greater numbers of disadvantaged young people to successfully complete in-company vocational training
in the dual training system. In assisted training, trainees and training enterprises are provided with
support before and during in-company vocational training. The support provides additional prospects of
in-company experience for young people who have so far only been able to be provided with non company
training. To allow for regional differences and so that it can be adapted to existing regional
structures, assisted training has been designed to be very flexible. For example, assisted training can be
optionally supplemented with a preparatory phase and the group of people eligible with support can be
added to under Länder-level arrangements.
